With the Spring Solstice upon us we slipped into our standard meeting format at this, our first regular meeting since lockdown.
The Solstice served as a general theme for the meeting.
First of the prepared speeches was delivered virtually by an image of Johanna springing from somewhere in cyberspace.
The zoom warned of the dangers of overthinking, positive and negative stress, perfectionism and pessimism.
The image engaged, entertained and held our attention throughout, with good use of body language and gestures confined within the rectangular flat screen.
The book recommended by this entertaining image was “The Book Of Overthinking” by Dr Smith.
Next up, John failed to predict the future, except with his prediction that the future wouldn’t be predicted.
His comprehensive research presented many failures to predict as support of his thesis. Here John encountered an Athiest's Nightmare, in arguing to prove something's non-existence.
Jacquie also failed in explaining something that most believe (Moon Illusion) but are forever unsure why. Her contortions and enthusiasm for the subject held us gaping awestruck - or maybe that was simply Moonstruck.
Taylor’s illuminating quiz around the solstice added icing to the morning’s delights.
The meeting proceeded on through some well considered evaluations and table topics, finishing spot on time, something which I would have predicted earlier if John had asked.
If you are ever up early on a Thursday morning, come in to Sunrise Toastmasters for an inspiring start to the day.
If you are not up early on a Thursday, change your routine.
