Summer-warmed red bricks greeted our return to Toastmasters. Through half closed venetian slits, highlight and shadow shafted variegations across members exchanging stories of holiday torpor and expectations for an inspiring new year.
Robyn, Sean, Amber and Garry shared the prime speaking slots.
Memories of the season, books read and to read were extensive.
Resolutions were put aside in favour of the application of more realistic goal settings.
The rewriting of history was disassembled for all to consider.
End lines for Table Topics were distributed and each contestant without exception delivered stories full of value and surprise.
Concluding statements included, “…Which is why the tent fell down on Granny.” “…Which is not the best way to get through Ashburton.”…Since the pavlova incident I’ve got no friends.” “…Though we have tried many times, that situation has been impossible to re-create.” “…That’s the last time I’ll eat one of those.”
Terry received the most spontaneous applause from the audience in contorting his story around to deliver the final line “…That, in layman’s terms, is how to split an atom.”
For bibliophiles, some of the books mentioned were:
